About this Website
The idea of Ultradave.com started back in 1998 or 1999 when I was out of work with an injury or recovering from surgery. I had been getting tired of daytime television and reading novels when I decided to check out some personal homepages and corporate websites. I became fascinated with some great websites and disgusted with the tons of cluttered personal homepages and affiliate-type websites I saw. I soon began to figure out what I liked about the better quality websites, and decided to create a couple of websites of my own.
I designed the original versions of Ultradave.com on one of those free hosts, trying out different layouts and colors, and including sections for news, movies, a large James Bond tribute, humor, kids, sports, and more. I also added a website award program called Ultradave's Awards of Excellence. I soon learned about the shortcomings of free hosts, acquired the ultradave.com domain, and signed on with a real host. I then started to hand code html and work with some of the Macromedia products like Flash and Dreamweaver.
I added sections on writing for the Web and website design. I also added a portfolio section because many people had asked me to make free websites and graphics for them, and I had begun to accumulate a substantial portfolio of websites, logos and graphics. Ultradave.com earned many website awards including some of the world's top awards. It even earned the site of the year award from a couple of distinguished award programs.
Today, the site does not include movie reviews, a James Bond tribute, or an award program, although you may still see references to them on Yahoo or other seach engines. Instead, I have decided to concentrate on some of my favorite subjects like pizza. A personal homepage is a luxury. You can do whatever you want with it, be as creative as you want and change your mind as often as you like.
My favorite class of website design is the business look. I like a clean style with defined places to place content. I also like open/artistic styles with original artwork and photos. I am not a fan of frames for many technical and non technical reasons, but designed this website with frames to learn how it is done. I learned quite a lot, and had to meet some tough technical challenges when designing this version. There is some sophisticated html and asp coding lurk throughout the site.
Note about second-rate browsers: Many people believe that webmasters should cater to all companies that develop Web browsers by writing code to address their particular issues. For this website, I am not subscribing to such nonsense. I wrote good code, and I have little respect for browsers that cannot read my code flawlessly. Therefore, if you are having any problems viewing this website in a second-rate browser, I suggest that you do not support such poor practices by giving your hard earned money to companies that make poor products.
